The Buyer’s Guide to AI Visibility Tools in 2026

Everyone is selling you their dashboard. Here’s how to think about signing on for your first AI visibility tool, and specific tool profiles for your consideration.

Eighteen months ago, “AI visibility tool” wasn’t really a category. Today there are more than 200 of them. In the intervening months, the space has exploded, pulling  in over $300 million in funding between summer 2025 and spring 2026. With that funding came swift growth and adoption: Every SEO platform has bolted on a module, and every seed-stage startup has a leaderboard. What’s a brand to do? The answer: You do what you’ve always done, googling “best AI visibility tools,” in hopes of real information, but what you get is a wall of listicles that read the same and basically recommend all the same things from slightly different angles.

Most of those roundups are written by the vendors themselves. Frase’s guide to the ten best AI visibility tools concludes that the best AI visibility tool is Frase. Profound’s review of Ahrefs Brand Radar concludes that Profound’s pricing feels more flexible and worth the cost. Visiblie’s comparison of eight tools marks Visiblie as Editor’s Choice, to its credit with a transparency note attached.

It’s not a scandal or a surprise. Comparison content is one of the formats AI engines reach for most, so every vendor has a structural incentive to publish one. But it means the guide you’re reading is usually an ad supplemented by a little structured data.

While Althea doesn't build an AI visibility tool, we do buy them, and we’ve used or trialed most of the ones below which is where our observations come from!

First, Understand What You're Buying

Every tool in this category does roughly the same core job: It fires a list of prompts at a set of AI models on a schedule, records whether your brand shows up, and charts it over time. The differences that cost you money live one layer down in the product.

Engine coverage

You’re not necessarily limited by the number of models your tool tests, but you might be limited by your budget. Margins matter, and clients will pay more for more information. Peec AI’s self-serve plans cap you at three engines regardless of tier, with a fourth as a paid add-on. Ahrefs sells its AI indexes at $199/month each, or $699 for all six. Warning: The headline price almost never buys the coverage in the screenshot.

Prompt volume

One prompt, one model, one day is one unit of measurement. A narrow B2B product needs 100 to 150 prompts minimum to see across awareness, comparison, and purchase intent. Entry plans routinely give you 15 to 25. You’re definitely going to want to run the math before the demo that gets you excited instead of after it.

Methodology

Sampling matters enormously but clients rarely ask about it. Evertune runs roughly 1.25 million prompts per brand each month — 125 unique prompts, 100 runs each, across ten-plus engines. A snapshot-based tool that checks once and moves on will give you a number that swings for reasons that have nothing to do with your marketing.

Owned Vs. Earned Citations

A citation pointing at your own domain and a citation pointing at a TechTarget article are not the same asset, but not every tool separates them. Given that earned media drives the overwhelming majority of what models cite, a tool that blends the two is hiding something your team needs to see.

Does it stop at the alert?

This category sometimes splits between tools that hand you a chart and tools that hand you a deliverable. If nobody on your team is going to open the dashboard on a Tuesday and do something about it, you might be buying a subscription to a feeling rather than actionable information.

The Eight AI Visibility Tools To Investigate

Everything below is generally available and taking customers as we’ve researched and written this in July 2026.

Note: Prices move constantly, they’re frequently different on the vendor’s page than in the third-party roundup quoting it, and several of these companies repriced mid-2026. You should confirm any prices with the product itself because what you negotiate might be better even than the lowest stated price.

How to Find the Tool for You

Answer four questions honestly:

Where do your buyers actually ask?

Track those engines. Not all of them. If you sell developer tools and your shortlist tool doesn’t cover Claude, that’s disqualifying regardless of price.

Who’s going to act on this?

If the answer is “we’ll figure that out later,” buy the cheapest thing that proves the channel exists and revisit in a quarter.

How many prompts does your category really need?

Price the plan that covers that number, not the plan with the good headline.

What will you do when the number goes down?

If you don’t have an answer, you have a monitoring problem you can’t solve with monitoring.

✦ The Methodology

Five steps. One compounding system.

01

Audit

Every engagement starts here. Before we touch anything, we need to know exactly where you stand. We audit your SEO content, technical SEO, PR footprint, and AI visibility across the platforms that matter for your category. Most clients are surprised by what they find, both the gaps and the untapped assets they already have.

02

ICP + Messaging

Everything downstream depends on this. If you have a strong ICP and messaging framework already, we sharpen it. If you do not, we build it from scratch. This is not a theoretical exercise. It directly shapes which channels we target, which publications we pitch, which prompts we track, and what every piece of content is written to do.

03

Visibility Tracking

You cannot improve what you cannot measure. We set up Gauge to track your AI visibility and SEO performance across 300 to 500 prompts specific to your business. These prompts are pulled from real conversations across the internet and from your own customer interactions. You are tracking what your actual buyers are actually asking, not what we guess they are asking. You see your baseline, and you watch it move.

04

Strategy

With the audit done, ICP defined, and tracking in place, we build the plan. This is an editorial calendar that spans content, PR, and community. Every piece of work is tied to a specific visibility goal and a specific company goal. Nothing goes on the calendar unless we can explain why it is there and what it is supposed to do.

05

Execution

We handle the work. Writing, PR pitching, social media, paid opportunities, speaking submissions, award nominations. Consistently, every month, with a journalist's instinct for what will actually land and a strategist's eye on the visibility goals. No AI content slop. No algorithm chasing. No black box tactics. You have full access to everything we are doing and why.

What you are building toward.

PR Plus is not a campaign. It is a compounding system. Here is what that looks like when it is working.

A top-of-funnel moat

Visibility that is not dependent on any single channel, platform, or relationship. You are present wherever your buyer looks, and that presence compounds over time.

Visibility you can measure

Not coverage logos. Not impressions. Actual AI citation rates, SEO movement, and prompt tracking across the questions your buyers are actually asking.

A brand that can weather any shift

Algorithms will change. Platforms will come and go. What does not change is a brand with a clear sense of itself and the ability to tell its story well. Good storytelling and a strong point of view are what let you adapt quickly rather than start over.

Common questions.

The ideas behind every decision we make.

How is PR Plus different from traditional PR?

Traditional PR focuses on earned media placements as the end goal. PR Plus treats earned media as one input in a larger system. A placement in a relevant publication is valuable, but it is significantly more valuable when it is supported by strong SEO on your site, reinforced by community presence, and tracked against whether it is actually moving your AI visibility. PR Plus connects those dots.

How long before we see results?

Visibility tracking starts from day one, so you have a baseline immediately. Early wins like improved SEO structure, first placements, and community presence typically show up within the first 60 to 90 days. The compounding effect builds over months, not weeks. This is not a campaign with a start and end date. It is a system that gets more effective the longer it runs.

Do we need to have our messaging figured out before we start?

No. Step two of PR Plus is ICP and messaging development. If you have it, we sharpen it. If you do not, we build it. Many clients come in knowing their product well but not having articulated their buyer, their POV, or their channel strategy clearly. That is exactly what this step is for.

What does the day-to-day relationship look like?

You have full access to our data, insights, and workflow, integrated into Notion, Slack, Asana, or whichever tools your team already uses. The day-to-day contact is typically the head of marketing or PR. We do need founder buy-in on the strategy, but the execution runs through your marketing lead. No black box. No mystery. Everything we do, and why it is visible to you.

What types of companies does Althea work with?

Althea works best with Series A and B B2B startups in developer tools, fintech, adtech, martech, and B2B SaaS. You have funding, a dedicated marketing lead, and a founder who understands that brand visibility is a long-term investment, not a one-time campaign.

Ready to build something that compounds?

Every Althea engagement starts with an audit. We will show you exactly where your brand stands in search, in AI, and in the communities where your buyers actually are.
